Activities & Events

Activities and Annual Events Connect Us.

They are fun, sometimes FAB(!), and connect current students, faculty, and parents to the bigger Branson–of graduates, former parents, trustees, and friends. Click on the titles below to read more about each tradition.

FAB (Festival of Arts at Branson) is a two-day arts festival, during which Branson visual artists display their work, and students in music, dance, and theater perform in different venues throughout campus. On Friday, classes are canceled so all students, faculty, and staff can participate. On Saturday, parents, friends, and neighbors are invited for the daylong festivities.

Gospel Night

Hosted annually by STRIVE (Students Tackling Racial Issues Via Education), Gospel Night brings the community — parents, students, and faculty/staff — together to perform gospel songs. Alongside our Gospel Choir and local gospel musicians, smaller vocal and instrumental acts perform gospel music that has been connecting the Branson community for over twenty years.

Holi Festival of Colors

Parents help to organize an annual celebration in the tradition of the Holi Festival of Colors, a Hindu festival that commemorates the victory of good over evil.

Scavenger Hunt

Fulfilling a longstanding desire to bring a University of Chicago tradition to Branson, History Teacher Elizabeth Siarny worked with Student Senate to fit a large-scale Scavenger Hunt into Branson’s spring Spirit Week. Advisory groups were partnered together to form large teams and given a lengthy list of 80+ items to find, make, or complete for varying ranges of points. Items included finding a four-leaf clover, making a cardboard Trojan Horse, shooting a basketball the full length of a court and writing a piece of music using all 88 notes on the keyboard. To fulfill one of the items, Aiko Johnston ‘17 wrote a four-page, single-spaced 12 pt. font paper on Renaissance Dentistry complete with U of Chicago style citations!

Trivia Night

In early spring the sophomore class sponsors a trivia night that brings parents, students, and teachers. together for dinner and a self-formed team trivia competition.

Winter Arts Festival & Tree Lighting

Each year, the community gathers at the Commons and walks up the hill carrying candles and singing. The school's iconic tree is lit, more songs are sung, and the group is treated to a skit put on by the theater students, visual arts on display at New House Gallery, and the sounds of Branson musicians.

Branson Annual Women’s Retreat

Last weekend marked another successful Branson’s Women’s Retreat. Co-facilitated by Kathy Soave, Allyson Seal, and Meredith Herrera, this year’s retreat focused on friendship--the role it plays in our lives, the way it can shift over time, and how we show up as friends to the people that matter to us in our lives. Aided by structured activity, great conversation, delicious food, and a lot of fun, 19 upperclasswomen delved into these topics in deep and powerful ways. Please check out their culminating art project below!

Exciting close minute of a Dodgeball Tournament fundraiser, which Branson's Interact Club organizes annually. Last year 16 teams, 96 students and faculty, raised $800 to buy backpacks filled with art and school supplies for the children of the Sicanjou Lakota Tribe in Rosebud, South Dakota--and had a lot of good fun in the process.
