Printmaker Ben Muñoz Visits Advanced Visual Arts

The Branson Visual Arts team has redesigned the Advanced Visual Arts classes into two thematic electives. This semester, students are exploring how to employ art as a vehicle for social progress or critique in “Taking A Stand: Messaging the Masses.”

During the first course of the rotation, Texas-based printmaker Ben Muñoz visited for a series of three classes and shared work from his print series The Endless Endeavor. The woodcuts are about his family, beginning with his “grandfather coming to this country from Mexico City… while exploring the generations in between.”

Having shared his story, Ben encouraged students in Advanced Visual arts to do the same, as they created a work to respond to his inquiry, “what does it mean for YOU to be growing up in America at this moment?” Each and every work reveals a great deal about our shared moment; students created imagery grappling with COVID, the California wildfires, and a variety of social issues.
