Freshman Physics Takes Off
This is rocket science! On March 26, Karl Schmidt and Maggie Molter’s physics classes gathered on the Tom Ryan field to set off water bottle rockets.
The freshmen were investigating how the altitude achieved by a water bottle rocket relates to the pressure, water volume, and mass of the rocket. They related these trends to Newton's Laws of motion, as they worked in groups to design a rocket that would go as high as possible, within the constraints of the stated budget. The big question loomed – which rocket will go the highest?!
