Branson’s Girls Varsity Tennis Team Kicks Off Exciting Season
The girls’ tennis team started tryouts and practices in early August and if the last couple of weeks are any indication, this will be an exciting season! The team has attracted a number of new players and is currently counting 37 players on its roster, including 11 freshmen. Head Coach Chrissie Costamagna recently recruited Noelle Anderson as Assistant Coach this season to help with practices and match prep. The team played two scrimmages as warm up for the season; a 3-4 loss in a close match up against Piedmont on August 19 (2 singles wins and one doubles win) and a 4-3 win against University on August 26 (4 singles wins).
The 2021 official season started this past week with a match against San Marin on August 31 in which Branson DOMINATED with an impressive 7-0 win (only 5 games lost in total over 7 matches!). A couple of days later, Branson faced a more spirited Novato but still managed another convincing 6-1 win (3 singles wins and 3 doubles wins). Anna Lardner, team captain and leading the charge among Branson’s players, is super excited about the team’s prospects for the season and says “We have amazing girls both on and off the court. The new girls are adding more to our already super strong team, and I can’t wait to get to know them even better. I think we have a good chance of going far this year, not only because of the talent this team has, but also because of our chemistry. Not only do we want to do well against the other teams, but we also want to have fun with each other.”
The team’s next match ups are against Tamalpais and San Rafael on September 8 and 10, respectively. Over the season, the team is scheduled to play a total of 16 match ups. Go Bulls!
