Cross Country Teams Place Third, Sixth in MCALs
On Wednesday, November 13, at the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) championship meet, both the girls and boys cross country teams ran their finest races of the year on the season’s biggest stage so far, placing third and sixth respectively.
Sage Sanderson (19:17) placed fifth overall, running a minute faster this year than she did in last year’s championship meet. Fellow first-team all-leaguer Caitlin Evers (19:42) ran thirty seconds faster this. Branson’s final three scorers--Carly Yoon (20:46), Emma Allen (20:52) and Eliza Hawley (20:02)—secured the bronze when they came through in an amazingly tight bunch, separated by just sixteen seconds, nabbing 24th, 26th and 28th places. Alexa Polsky (21:44) turned in a stellar performance, running 1:23 faster than she did on the same course in September.
Benji Wu led the way for Branson, earning second-team all-league honors with his 18th place (17:01) finish. Henry Houser (17:19) ran two for the Bulls, chopping his career-best pace-per mile from 6:06 to 5:40. Max Gutierrez (18:01) crossed next for Branson in 40th place, posting the second fastest time of all freshmen in the county. Fellow frosh Finn Dossey (18:29) cut nearly a minute from his September best. Final scorer Brendon Milan-Howells (18:36) made a huge leap, cutting 1:19 from his previous effort on the course, and dropping from 6:26 per mile to 6:06
The Bulls will next race at the North Coast Section meet at Hayward High School on Saturday, November 23.
