Boys Varsity Soccer Falls to Tam, 0-3
The Branson Boys Varsity Soccer Team welcomed Tam to Tom Ryan field on Friday, April 30 in their home opener. Tam came in as one of the favorites to win the league in this shortened season and their play backed those expectations.
Branson was put on the defensive from the opening whistle and only some more stellar play from the defense kept the game scoreless for much of the first half. Tam did put the ball in the net in the first 5 minutes but the goal was waved off for offsides. This became a theme in the game with the stout Branson back line catching the Tam attackers offsides over and over again. In the 12th minutes Tam had a good chance on a corner but goalie Finn Dossey pushed the attempt over the bar. Tam finally broke through in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 lead. They nearly doubled that lead a minute later but a great diving save by Finn Dossey kept the Bulls within a goal.
The second half had more of the same good defensive work but the Bulls were able to gain a little more possession and work the ball around. In the 45th minute striker Josh Batteer was played in behind the Tam defense. He managed to beat a couple of defenders but his shot was blocked and eventually corralled by the Tam goalie. Just a couple of minutes later Tam was awarded a free kick just outside the Bulls 18 yard box and converted a low shot past the wall and into the net for a 2-0 lead. Tam extended their lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute. The Bulls continued to play hard but were unable to generate a goal of their own. More good defense from the Bulls and a couple of more saves by Finn Dossey kept the visitors from adding any more goals and the game ended 0-3.
