Boys Varsity Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 3-2 Victory Over Novato
The Bulls celebrated their senior players (Jake McFadden, Josh Batteer, Justin Forde and Connor Thorp) on Friday, June 4 at Tom Ryan Field. The Bulls continued their strong run of play, securing a 5th victory in the shortened 8 game season.
For a second game in a row, the Bulls struck early. Connor Thorp made it 1-0 with a volley off a long James Daly throw-in just a few minutes into the game. The Bulls continued to press the attack and had several more excellent chances to add to their lead. James Daly had a fantastic kick go bar down and somehow stay out of the goal. Just a couple minutes later, Justin Forde got behind the defense and hit a screaming volley off the cross bar.
As the half wore on Novato started to get a little more possession. They were eventually rewarded after a scramble in front of goal (and a missed hand ball) allowed them to knot the match at 1-1. Connor Thorp made it 2-1 just before half, dribbling through 5 Novato defenders to finish with a nice left-footed shot past the diving Novato goalie.
The second half saw more good passing and defending from the Bulls. Connor Thorp sent a ball over the Novato defense to a streaking Jake McFadden, who dribbled into the box and blasted the ball home to make it 3-1 in the 51st minute. A diving save on a Connor Thorp shot in the 60th minute kept the Bulls lead at 2 goals.
With less than 10 minutes to go Novato threw all of their seniors on the field. The renewed energy turned the game into a thrilling back and forth affair with chances at both ends. Novato was able to draw closer with a goal in the 76th minute but the Bulls held on for a 3-2 victory.
