Branson celebrated its annual Convocation on September 20, 2024, marking the start of the school year with lively music and inspiring speeches. Senior Class Representative Ali Evans shared an excerpt from "What Life Should Be" by Pat A. Fleming, encouraging the audience to carve their own paths and view challenges as growth opportunities. The Jazz Performance Ensemble then entertained the crowd with an improvisational piece, "Afro Blue" by Mongo Santamaria, directed by Music Teacher Jaimeo Brown. Following this, Senior Class Representative Tom Lardner read the preface of Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman.
Last spring, the Class of 2025 selected English Teacher Giles Scott to deliver the keynote remarks. Giles thoughtfully explored the complexities of political discourse, highlighting the importance of seeing individuals as more than their beliefs. He urged for genuine curiosity and understanding in discussions about differing viewpoints, emphasizing that recognizing each other's humanity is vital for meaningful dialogue. His address included two demonstrations of the dance move “the floss,” which had the whole audience in laughing.
Branson’s Rock Band performed lively renditions of "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men and "More Than a Feeling" by Boston. Senior Class Representative Eliott Perlmauter then read Desiderata by Max Ehrmann, reminding everyone to stay true to themselves, find calm amid chaos, and treat others with kindness. The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt performance of "Home" by Philip Phillips, sung by the Branson Singers.
