Branson's beloved annual tradition, Gospel Night, marked a significant milestone this year as it celebrated its 30th anniversary. The event, held in commemoration of Black History Month on February 12 and February 13, 2024 as a joyful ode to our Beloved Community, was a resounding success.
Created by Branson students thirty years ago, Gospel Night holds a special place in the hearts of the Branson community. It serves as a platform for Branson students, current and former faculty/staff, parents, and local gospel musicians to showcase their talents and unite in the spirit of song and celebration.
Founding alumna Anndretta Lyle Wilson ‘94 kicked off the evening celebration with a video message, remembering how Gospel Night was born. She acknowledged former faculty member Brenda Brown for her role and support, as well as fellow alumna Eboni Starr Woods ‘96 and Branson’s Assistant Head of School Nathalio Gray who kept her vision going after she graduated.
“When I was 15 I really loved Branson but I didn’t fit in. For me, Gospel Night was a solution. I decided to bring my community, my culture, my traditions, my music into a place that felt foreign to me and make it feel a little more like home. But, it didn’t stop there. Over the next 30 years, I didn’t forget the power of finding solutions, sharing ideas. So, I want to encourage you: while it’s absolutely important to identify and stand up for what isn’t right, what isn’t working, what isn’t fair, don’t let that be the end. Keep imagining how things can be better. Push forward and hopefully you’ll find people who affirm you, and support you and even greet you with kindness when needed.”
Following her words, the musicians and dancers took the stage, performing to full houses with all the energy and excitement that are Gospel Night’s hallmarks. Each night was an unforgettable evening of song, dance, and fellowship.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the performers, audience members, volunteers, livestream viewers, and event organizers who contributed to the event's success. For those who missed the performance or simply wish to relive the magic, you’re in luck! The Monday livestream of the event is available for viewing on YouTube or Vimeo.
Here's to 30 more years of spreading joy, harmony, and the spirit of togetherness through Gospel Night at Branson!
