After losing a heartbreaker to MCAL rival Redwood High School in extra innings two days before, Branson’s baseball team sealed a 4-3 victory over Redwood on Thursday, May 4 in a come-from-behind win fueled by a three-run fifth inning. The victory was especially sweet on Senior Day, where the Bulls celebrated seniors Noam AuYeung, Will Ashley and Luke Shane.
The Bulls fell behind by two runs in the first inning, and Redwood scored another run in the third inning. After that, the scoring was all Branson. The Bulls tallied one run in the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, unselfish at-bats generated three runs. With two runners on base, Tom Lardner sacrificed to advance both runners. Next up, Jackson Kayser sacrificed and scored a runner. That set the stage for a triple by senior AuYeung in his final regular season game as a Bull, bringing another runner home.
The Bulls defense held strong against the Redwood bats. Starting pitcher Kaden Gustafson went for four innings, giving up only a single earned run in an impressive outing. Reliever Mo Jacoby threw the final innings, with two clutch strike-outs and allowing only a single hit across three innings.
