Branson Artists Featured in 29th Annual RISING STARS Showcase

Twelve Branson students have been selected to exhibit artwork at the 29th annual RISING STARS High School Art Exhibition, a showcase of the best high school student art in Marin County.

The juried show features painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, digital media, printmaking, and original works on paper by young artists. Visual art teachers from public, private and alternative high schools nominated their top students to participate.

Works by the following Branson artists will be featured: Prudence Kelly Andrews, Grace Carson, Kai Cunha, Mallory Harrington-Fei, Naomi Kessinger, Paris Manthoulis, Madison Morrison, Eliana Prosnitz, Pierce Sanderson, Thomas Treadwell, Taylor West, and Oliver Zink.

There is a special Opening Reception for student artists, their family and friends on Sunday, February 9 from 1 - 3 pm.  We will present several awards, and there will be food and refreshments for you to enjoy.

The public opening reception will be held Friday, Feb. 14 from 5 to 8 pm, which coincides with the 2nd Friday Art Walk in downtown San Rafael.

The exhibit will be on view February 9–March 27, 2020 at the Youth in Arts Gallery at 917 C Street in downtown San Rafael. In April, it moves to the Marin Center, where it will be on display in the Bartolini Gallery April 9 – May 31.

"RISING STARS celebrates the immense talent that exists in our youth across the North Bay,” said Youth in Arts’ Executive Director Kristen Jacobson. “It not only showcases these young emerging artists, but it also highlights the dedicated arts educators that tirelessly develop their students. I'm so excited to see this exhibition come to life."

The exhibition is blindly adjudicated. This year’s judges include painter Kay Carlson from Marin Open Studios; photographer and creative consultant Melissa McArdle; and Lynn Sondag, chair of Dominican University’s Department of Art, Art History, Media and Design.

Sponsors include College of Marin, Il Davide, Marin Open Studios, Perry’s Art Supplies & Framing, RileyStreet Art Supply, and the San Anselmo Arts Commission.

Artist Susan Diglioni founded Rising Stars in 1991, believing that young artists should be recognized for their talents.
