Biotechnology

Juniors and seniors in the lab-centric Biotechnology, Medicine, and Science Research elective learn about immunology, cancer and stem cell biology, personalized medicine, and more.

Students begin by creating glowing bacteria after inserting jellyfish DNA and move onto complex investigations including predicting and testing outcomes to chemotherapy in different cancer cell lines. Finally, they envision and conduct their own research based upon their toolbox of knowledge.

En route, students answer fundamental and engaging questions including, “Why do vaccines work? What is cancer? Why is it so difficult to treat? What are the frontiers of stem cell research?”

The best part? They get to wear the white lab coats.

Thank you to the VWR Foundation for its generous grant supporting science research at Branson.
